Starting as an adult beginner
You start where a child starts, with Noorani Qaida: the Arabic letters, their sounds, and how they join. Adults usually move through it faster than children, often in three to five months, because you can practise between classes without being told to.
The part adults find hardest is not the letters. It is the sounds that do not exist in English, and the habit of reading left to right. Both are just repetition, and both come.
If you are embarrassed about starting late
Most of our adult students are. It is the single most common thing people say in the first class, and it is also the reason many never begin. One-on-one removes the audience entirely. Nobody but your teacher hears you read, and your teacher has taught dozens of people in exactly your position.
If you are a revert
You can start with no Arabic and no background at all. It is worth saying so when you book, so the teacher begins with the letters rather than assuming you can already follow along. Many adult students also take Islamic studies alongside Quran reading to build the wider picture.
If you read as a child and stopped
Very common. A teacher will listen to you read in the free trial and tell you honestly whether to restart from Qaida or go straight to Quran reading with Tajweed. Usually it is somewhere in between: the letters are still there, the Tajweed rules never were.

Can an adult learn to read the Quran from the beginning?
Yes. Adults start with Noorani Qaida, the Arabic letters and their sounds, and usually move through it faster than children because they practise between classes.
Will anyone else hear me read?
No. Every class is one-on-one with your teacher only. There is no group and no audience.
Can I request a female teacher?
Yes. Naeem Quran Academy has both male and female teachers. Say which you prefer when you book.
How much do adult classes cost?
£30 per month for five 30 minute one-on-one classes a week, or around $40 in the United States. The first class is free.
I am a revert with no Arabic at all. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Mention it when you book so the teacher starts from the letters rather than assuming prior knowledge.
Are the fees negotiable?
The rates quoted are standard, not fixed. If they are difficult for your family, contact us and we will work something out. We would rather agree a workable arrangement than have a child stop learning.
