How Long Does It Take to Memorize the Quran?
The arithmetic
The Quran is 604 pages in the standard Madani mushaf. Divide by your daily portion and add roughly 30 to 40 percent for days missed and pages relearned.
| Daily portion | Realistic time | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| A few lines | 5 to 7 years | Young children alongside school |
| Half a page | 3 to 5 years | Most school age students |
| One page | 2 to 3 years | Committed students with time |
| Three or more pages | 1 to 2 years | Full time Hifz students |
Revision is the whole game
A daily Hifz session has three parts, and the new portion is the smallest of them. Recent revision and older revision take most of the time. A student who memorises a page a day and skips revision will be able to recite the last week and almost nothing before it.
Read fluently first
Starting Hifz before reading is solid is the most common mistake. Memorising on top of shaky reading locks the mistakes into memory, and correcting a memorised error is far harder than correcting a read one. If a student is not fluent yet, the right move is a few more months of Quran reading with Tajweed first.
At Naeem Quran Academy
The Hifz track runs 30 minutes a day, Monday to Friday, with a dedicated Hifz teacher, a structured revision plan and progress reports for parents. It is £40 per month. The teacher sets the daily portion based on the student rather than a fixed curriculum pace.
Common questions
How long does it take to memorise the whole Quran?
Roughly 3 to 5 years at half a page a day, 2 to 3 years at a page a day, and 1 to 2 years for full time students memorising several pages daily.
Why do some students never finish?
Almost always skipped revision. Without daily revision of old portions, material is lost faster than new material is gained.
What age should a child start Hifz?
When they read the Quran fluently and correctly, not at a set age. Starting before reading is solid tends to lock mistakes into memory.
How much does the Hifz track cost?
£40 per month for five 30 minute one-on-one classes a week with a dedicated Hifz teacher and a revision plan.
Can an adult memorise the Quran?
Yes. Adults typically memorise more slowly than children but revise more reliably, which often evens out over a few years.
